What I Know 5-29-13

The legislature finally completed their business in last-minute fashion last week. For the most part, unbiased reviews seem to indicate they made some hard choices that should set the state closer to the right direction on several critical fronts. I’m sure some will quibble about spending limits or with some of the compromises needed to get bills passed, but after about 8 years of paralysis, there was big movement.

Same-sex marriage was the headline story along with a big...

What I Know 5-22-13

There has been a lot of discussion this week on our listserv about a neighbor, a young man who has been a part of our community for several years. What I Know 5-2-13

It’s grants time for the Foundation and this year’s awards were made considerably more difficult due to the record number of requests that came in. Our usual total is around $40,000 or so, but this year the requests topped $70,000. Our Available to Grant money (which comes from our endowed funds that many have donated to so generously) was around $32,000. So, our Grants Committee members and board needed to really dig down to understand how these different organizations a...
