What I Know 10-30-13

Posted by SAP Community Foundation on Wednesday, October 30, 2013,

Last week I mentioned my youngest, so today, I have to mention my oldest, especially since it's her birthday. I could wax philosophical about her too, and how her birth gave me, for the first time, one of my favorite titles, "Dad." She is all about community, by the way, serving in a community liaison capacity at a Minneapolis high school. I am tremendously impressed by our younger generations and their commitment to not just doing the right thing, but understanding why. Our generatio...

What I Know 10-23-13

We had a visit from our daughter last week. She's in her final year at a college in Portland, Oregon so we don't see as much of her as we'd like. Some of you who know me won't be surprised that I look for opportunities to give advice, and since she will soon be out into the "real world" it seems like there needs to be some kind of definitive words of wisdom I should share. A group of neighbors in the area felt the playground was critical as a spot for neighbors of all ages to meet, talk and play, so they organized. They reached out to the city and to our Foundation to help find a solution. Led by an area parent, Deanna Seppanen, our group got the city to provide mo...

What I Know 10-2-13

October is here and the pumpkin is on the vineā€¦I don't know where that leads, but it sounds a little poetic and serves to launch some genuinely spooky thoughts brought on by the government shut down and looming debt ceiling doomsday. I won't get into the specifics issues being debated by either side in congress, but I will say that the solution starts at home. Our democracy is built on the idea that government has an important role to play in guaranteeing the fundamental freedoms an...
